Calgary Stampeders News Release

The Calgary Stampeders are pleased to announce that quarterback Henry Burris has been recognized by the Canadian Football League as the offensive player of the week for his performance in last Saturday's 37-16 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Burris completed 28 of 36 passes for 337 yards and five touchdowns (to four different players) and rushed for 25 yards on five carries. His 28 completions moved him into a tie with Jeff Garcia for second place on the Stamps' all-time completions list, behind Doug Flutie. Earlier this season, Burris moved into second place - behind Flutie - on the Stamps' all-time list for passing yards, passing touchdowns and pass attempts.

"Henry's season reminds me a lot of Doug Flutie's time in Calgary," said head coach/general manager John Hufnagel. "He has been effective throwing the football, he has been effective running the football and he makes everyone around him better. He's a true leader of this team and it's nice to see him be recognized for his work."

Burris is enjoying a career season and has completed 353 of 547 passes (64.5 per cent) for 4,703 yards, 36 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He has also carried the ball 81 times for 560 yards and three majors, while his 104.5 quarterback rating is a personal best.

This is the second such honour for Burris on the season and the fifth time a Calgary player has been recognized by the CFL. Stamps kicker Sandro DeAngelis (special teams) has been honoured twice, defensive back Milton Collins (defensive) once and Mike Labinjo (Canadian) once.

The next Stampeders home game is this Saturday, Nov. 1 against the B.C. Lions. Kickoff is 3 p.m. and fans are encouraged to get their tickets through Ticketmaster at 403.777.0000 or by visiting Ticketmaster.ca.
