Boise Burn News Release
BOISE, Idaho - 7-7-07 proved to be a winning combination as the Boise Burn scored seven TDs and ended a seven-game losing streak at Qwest Arena Saturday night. The 47-16 win over the Bakersfield Blitz keeps the Burn's play off hopes alive.
Three TDs (1 passing, 2 rushing) by the Burn's #7 Bart Hendricks gave the 4,056 fans something to cheer about. QB BJ Rhode tossed two TDs, and WR Emmett White scored two rushing.
The Burn put the first "7" on the board thanks to a Rhode to Ahmad Harris 27-yard score just 3:27 into the game. After a defensive stop, the Burn turned to their running game. Emmett White ran the ball in from a yard out giving Boise a 14-0 lead.
In the second quarter, the Burn capitalized on a Sullivan Beard interception (7th of the season). Hendricks took the snap and ran 6 yards for the score and the 21-0 lead at the 1:18 mark. On the ensuing kick off, the ball hit off the bar right into the hands of Corey Dodds which set up the Burn's fourth TD of the first half. Emmett White got the call again, this time taking it 4 yards untouched for the score and the 28-0 lead. Bakersfield found the end zone with one second left in the half. Blitz QB Dan Riley hit Rennard Reynolds from 7 yards out cutting the lead to 28-7 going into the break.
In the third quarter, Bakersfield quickly drove down the field but a Reynolds fumble on the 2-yard line was recovered by Madarieta and the Burn offense took advantage again. Emmett White's second TD of the game came on an 8-yard pass from Rhode and the Burn were in cruise control 34-7
Hendricks scored, this time from a yard out, for the 40-7 lead. Following another fumble recovery, Rhode went back to Harris for his second TD and the Burn's seventh of the contest. Bakersfield would score the game's final 9 points, but it was too little too late as the Burn snapped their seven-game losing streak 47.
