OKLAHOMA CITY- The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz and the Alabama Steeldogs both came into tonight's contest enduring losing streaks and fighting to stay in the playoff hunt. With the help of 6,727 fans, the Yard Dawgz defeated the Steeldogs 56-45 for the first time in franchise history. Alabama scored first in the game when QB Mitch Tanney found WR Herman Bell for a 15 yard touchdown. Oklahoma City WR Jarrail Jackson put the Yard Dawgz on the board with a 5 yard rushing TD. Jackson returns to the Yard Dawgz after a stint with the Manchester Wolves and had 8 receptions for 96 yards and 2 TDs. Jackson also had 2 rushing TDs and 6 kick returns for 138 yards. A 9 yard pass from QB Stan Hill to WR Tacoma Fontaine put the Dawgz in the lead at the end of the first quarter. The Steeldogs scored two TDs and kicker Nick Hayes had a 23 yard field goal to close out the half. Hayes and Yard Dawgz kicker, Dylan Pohlman, were both perfect on the night.
Oklahoma City received the ball to start the second half and got on the board quickly when U.S. Ironman of the Game, Al Hunt, caught a 20 yard pass from Hill. The teams exchanged scores throughout the quarter, bringing the third quarter score to 49-38, Oklahoma City. Each team scored only once during the fourth quarter. Oklahoma City's Clarence LeBlanc won the ADT Defensive Player of the Game award for his outstanding performance. LeBlanc had 12.5 total tackles in the contest.
Monday, July 16th, the Yard Dawgz head to Tulsa to take on the Central Division leading Talons. Kickoff is set for 7:05 p.m. at the Tulsa Convention Center.
