FC Dallas News Release

LA MANGA, SPAIN - The Dallas Burn surrendered two goals within the first 15 minutes of the match but battled back to tie Dynamo Kiev, 2-2, today in their second match of the La Manga tournament in Spain. Despite the draw, the Burn failed to advance in tournament play.

The Burn went down a goal just two minutes into the game after a failed clearance out of the box by Jordan Stone. Stone's clearance went to the left of the box where it was centered to Andrii Husin 25-yards from goal. Husin ran onto the cross and hit a one-time bullet into the left corner of the goal.

Fifteen minutes into the match, Kiev struck again as the ball was crossed to the near post. The Kiev attacker had a step on Burn defender Steve Jolley and was able to toe-poke the ball just inside the post.

The Burn pulled one back in the 30th minute on Bobby Rhine's second goal of the tournament. Rhine started the play by intercepting a ball and sending a beautiful through ball springing Toni Nhleko on a one-on-one with the Kiev keeper. Nhleko tried to dribble the 'keeper but had the ball knocked off of his foot. Rhine, following the play, pounced on the rebound and slotted it into the open net. The Burn came within inches of equalizing just two minutes later as Nhleko's header was cleared off of the line.

Newly acquired goalkeeper Scott Garlick kept the Burn's hopes alive in the 49th minute, stoning Kiev on a one-on-one. In the 65th minute, Rhine had a chance for his second goal of the match. Eddie Johnson snapped a header on goal, forcing the 'keeper into a diving save. The rebound fell to Rhine, who put his shot over the open goal.

The Burn notched the equalizer in stoppage time with Jason Thompson finding the back of the net just ten minutes after entering the match. Ty Maurin sent a cross into the box which just cleared the head of the Kiev defender. Thompson redirected the cross into the goal for the final 2-2 score.

While the Burn did not advance in the tournament, they will still play consolation games on Monday and Thursday vs. opponents to be determined by the outcome of the other matches.
