Danville Otterbots News Release

DANVILLE, VA - The Danville Braves came into Tuesday's action riding high off of back to back shutouts in Greeneville, however it was Burlington toying with the notion of a combined shutout in game one of this series. Burlington scored early, and managed to keep Danville from prying their way back late in the game as they took the first one over Danville 2-1.

Andrew Waszak had his stuff working for him on the mound, despite giving up the lone two Burlington runs in the second inning. The former Michigan State Spartan threw six innings, giving up two runs on three hits, and one walk. The righty also struck out four batters on his way to a solid bounce back start after getting a little roughed up in a loss against Bristol last week.

The D-Braves bullpen continues its stellar streak, ripping through Appalachian League lineups. Carlos Salazar was the only pitcher to come on in relief of Waszak, and he threw three scoreless innings, continuing the dominance by the pen. Salazar went the three scoreless, fanning three Royals and walking two. The bullpen is now up to 30 straight scoreless innings in the past eight games.

In the eighth inning it was Matt Tellor who tried to get the rally started for Danville. Joe Daris reached base after being plunked by Burlington's Carlos Hererra, giving Danville a chance as they got up to the meat of their order. Burlington gambled by electing to intentionally walk Jordan Edgerton to put two on for Danville, bringing up Tellor with two out. Tellor would rope one to short, hit too well to be corralled, bringing in the speedy rookie Daris home for the Braves first, and last run of the ball game.

Despite losing 2-1 and Burlington holding the lead for the better part of eight innings, it was a winnable contest for the D-Braves. They outhit Burlington 6-3, and left a runner stranded in the eighth with the go-ahead run at the plate.

Tomorrow the Danville Braves (18-13) will match up with Burlington (14-17) for the last home game of this three game series, as it moves to Burlington on Thursday. Tomorrow will feature D-Braves' Daniel Cordero (1-3, 6.91 ERA), who is set to square off with Burlington's Carter Hope (1-2, 4.19 ERA) as Danville looks to even the series. The game is scheduled for a first pitch at 7:00 p.m. at American Legion Post 325 Field at Dan Daniel Memorial Park.
