Greeneville Astros News Release

Kingsport, TN - The Greeneville Astros (14-17) were defeated, 5-0, by the Kingsport Mets (15-15) on Tuesday night at Hunter Wright Stadium. After being one of the hottest hitting teams in the Appalachian League at the start of the season, it was the third consecutive loss for the Astros in which they were held scoreless.

Even though the Astros drew seven walks in the game, they left eight men on base after managing only two hits. Both hits came courtesy of Yonathan Mejia, who finished two-for-four with a double.

Meanwhile, after the Mets got an Oswald Caraballo RBI double in the first inning, they also struggled to get much else going with Astros' starting left-hander Austin Nicely in the game. Nicely held the Mets to just one run on two hits over his five innings of work. However, later in the game, the Mets got untracked.

In the seventh inning, the Mets increased their lead on a Wuilmer Becerra solo homer, but it was the eighth inning when they put the game away.

Once again, it was Caraballo and Becerra that did the damage. First, Caraballo hit a RBI single. Then, Becerra concluded the scoring with a two-run single.

Both Caraballo and Becerra finished three-for-four on the night to tally six of the Mets eight total hits. They also played a role in each of the Mets five runs as Caraballo had two RBI compared to three for Becerra.

Blake Taylor (W, 1-0), the starting pitcher for the Mets, held the Astros to just one hit over six innings as he picked up the win.

The Astros will travel to Kingsport to face the Mets again on Wednesday night. Game time is scheduled for 7:00pm.
