Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Tonight's game between the Traverse City Beach Bums(9-16) and Joliet Slammers(14-13) was the polar opposite of last night's 22 run explosion, as the Bums won a tight one, 3-1.

Joliet's Charlie White led off the game, reaching on a fielding error, then moved all the way to third on singles by Alfredo Rodriguez and Carter Bell. Marc Flores stepped to the plate and lifted a fly ball to right field. Tyler Peterson made the catch but White scored from third on the sacrifice, giving the Slammers a 1-0 lead.

With two outs in the bottom of the inning, Jose Vargas singled to right field. Will Kengor followed with an RBI double down the right field line, scoring Vargas and tying the game. From there, the pitchers took over. Joliet starter, Sean Townsley, at one point, retired ten in a row leading to the fifth inning.

Brandon Thomasson led off with a single. After a Tyler Peterson strikeout, Kendall Patrick was hit by a pitch. Jeff DeBlieux then ripped a double to center field, scoring both Thomasson and Patrick, giving the Beach Bums a 3-1 advantage. Both team threatened in the later innings but the pitching held strong.

Jacob Lanning went all nine innings for the complete game win, improving to 2-3. He allowed just the one run on seven hits, and struck out two. Townsley is stuck with the loss for Joliet after going six innings, giving up three runs on four hits and a walk, while striking out nine. He falls to 2-2.
