Lake Erie Crushers News Release

AVON, Ohio - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, fell at home for the second night in a row, as they were held to just four hits in a 4-2 loss to the Washington Wild Things at All Pro Freight Stadium.

For the Crushers (13-11) the loss was their fifth in their last six games, while the win for the Wild Things (13-12) gives them three in four tries against Lake Erie this season.

Lake Erie was once again limited offensively, as they had very few chances to score, and were held to just four hits on the evening, getting two of those from Connor Oliver, who has hit safely four times over the first two games of the series.

Washington fired the first shot, getting on the board in the top of the first inning. Jamal Austin began the game with a double down the right field line, made his way to third on wild pitch, and scored on Ricky Rodriguez's RBI groundout.

The Crushers answered in the bottom of the first. Carlos Avila reached on a one out walk, and made his way to third on a single from Jose Barraza before scoring the game tying run on a wild pitch.

Washington used the long ball to take a 3-1 lead in the top of the third. Rodriguez reached on a one out single, and Bryan Haar followed with a two-run homer to left, his sixth of the season.

Lake Erie was able to trim the deficit in the bottom of the third. Oliver smashed the first pitch he saw over the wall in right field for his fourth homer of the season, and his second in his last three games. Unfortunately, that was Lake Erie's final run of the night.

Washington added one final run in the top of the fifth, as Nick Ferdinand stroked a two-out RBI single to center. The Crushers had one final chance to tie the game, as they had the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, but could not cash in.

Brandon Hinkle (2-2) scored the win for Washington, allowing a pair of runs on two hits over 5.2 innings of action, and Zach Grotz (4) snagged the save, after tossing 1.2 innings of scoreless relief. Brett Sullivan (0-1) took the loss in his Crusher debut, allowing three runs on five hits over three innings of action.

Oliver produced Lake Erie's only multi-hit game, going 2-for-5 with a run scored and drove one in as well.

The Crushers will finish their three-game series with the Washington Wild Things on Sunday afternoon at All Pro Freight Stadium. Right-hander Jordan Kraus (1-1, 2.46) will start for the Crushers, and the Wild Things will counter with right-hander Sam Agnew-Wieland (0-0, 10.80 The first pitch is scheduled for 2:05 PM.
