Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums'(22-30) couldn't overcome a quick Evansville Otters(30-21) start, dropping this weekend's series opener, 9-2.
Rolando Gomez led off the game for the Otters with a double to centerfield. After two quick fly outs, Chris Breen drove him home with a double of his own. Nik Balog followed with a walk then Denzel Richardson hit a blast down the left field line for a three run homer, his second of the season, and it was 4-0 after a half inning.
In the third, Josh Allen walked and came in to score on Balog's RBI single to right. One inning later, Evansville added another run when, with two away Christopher Riopedre hit a solo shot to left, his second long ball of the season. In the bottom of the inning, the Beach Bums offense got some momentum. With one out, Steven Patterson singled to center and Jose Vargas, returning from the disabled list, walked. Will Kengor drove in the first run with a single to left, scoring Patterson, and the Bums trailed 6-1.
Evansville added a run in the sixth on an RBI single by Gomez but the Beach Bums got that run back in the bottom of the seventh. Ryan Bottger hit his first triple of the season, then came in to score on Kendall Patrick's RBI sacrifice fly. After a scoreless eighth, the Otters put the game away in the ninth on an RBI single by Richardson, and a sacrifice fly by Chris Sweeney.
