
Bums' Comeback Falls Short at Windy City

CRESTWOOD, IL - The Traverse City Beach Bums(11-25) fell behind 6-0 early but the Windy City Thunderbolts(22-14) held on to win. 6-5.
After both teams went down in order in the first inning, Windy City brought ten men to the plate in the second. Reggie Lawson got the scoring going with a two-run double. John Williams drove in a run, two batters later, with an RBI double. Tim Zier brought in Williams with an RBI single then, Ransom LaLonde smacked a two-run double of his own to make it 6-0.
In the top of the third, Kendall Patrick led off with a double to left. Jeff DeBlieux then bunted his way on base while moving Patrick to third. Marcos Derkes grounded to second but reached on a fielders' choice, scoring Patrick getting the Beach Bums on the board. Ryan Bottger fouled out down the left field line but Derkes raced to second on the play. Jose Varagas was next and he ripped an RBI double to center, scoring Derkes. Will Kengor then scored Vargas with an RBI single, and the Bums' deficit was down to three.
From there, the pitchers held both teams scoreless until the ninth inning. James Ball came in to pitch to start the bottom of the third, going four innings of perfect ball. Ashton Perritt hurled the last two innings and was perfect as well, keeping the game close, and giving the Bums a chance to come back. Ryan Strombom, Chris Chigas, and Brian Loconsole held Traverse City scoreless until the ninth inning when Isaac Gil tried to close it out.
With one out, Christian Santisteban slammed a double over the centerfielder's head. Jeff DeBlieux drove him home with an RBI single to center. He immediately stole second then came in to score when Derkes singled to center but that is as close as the Beach Bums would come.
Although Ryan Strombom gave up the three run inning in the third, he settled down enough to earn the win, improving to 3-3. Jacob Lanning suffered the loss dropping to 2-5. He went the first two innings and allowed all six runs on seven hits, while striking out one. Isaac Gil nabbed his sixth save of the season in spite of giving up the two runs in the ninth on three hits.
The Beach Bums and Windy City Thunderbolts continue this weekend's four game series, tomorrow evening. Dylan Stoops gets the start for the Beach Bums and Tyler Murphy takes the hill for Windy City. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and Tom Willms will have the Miller Lite Pre-Game Show at 6:45pm, on 101.9- The Bay.
Don't Forget- Coming up on Friday, July 1st, we will have another FANtastic Fireworks show following the final pitch of the game against the Southern Illinois Miners. First pitch will be at 7:05pm and the gates open at 5pm.
