
Bums Can't Avoid Sweep in Schaumburg

SCHAUMBURG, IL - The Traverse City Beach Bums(9-20), dropped their fourth straight game, today against the Schaumburg Boomers(16-14), by a final score of 6-3.
After a scoreless first inning, Brandon Thomasson led off the second for the Bums with a double to centerfield. After moving to third on a Brian Portelli fly out, Kendall Patrick drove him home with an RBI sacrifice fly to right. In the third, Ryan Bottger led off with a walk. He then stole second and moved to third on a Casey Rogrigue groundout. Jose Vargas, who extended his hit streak to six games, singled to center, driving in Bottger, and the Beach Bums led 2-0.
In the bottom of the third, Schaumburg battled back to tie the game when Justin Byrd and Mark Nelson each hit RBI singles, driving home Mikal Hill and Josh Gardiner. After Paul Kronenfeld walked and Shawn Payne doubled to lead off the fourth, Kolten Yamaguchi got his first professional hit, a two-run single, that gave the Boomers a 4-2 advantage.
Mark Nelson, with one out in the seventh, slipped an infield single up the first base line. Jordan Dean drove him to third with a double into left field. After Paul Kronenfeld struck out, Payne doubled the Schaumburg lead with a two-run single. The Beach Bums, down to their last out, tried to claw back into the game, starting with a Jeff Deblieux walk. He took second on defensive indifference then Bottger hit an RBI single to right.
Josh Heddinger got the win for Schaumburg, improving to 2-2, as he went six innings allowing two runs on three hits and three walks. Michael Shreves is dealt the loss as he went the first five innings, giving up four runs on six hits, three walks, and he struck out four. He drops to 1-3.
Next up for the Beach Bums, as they continue this six game road trip, is a visit to Avon, Ohio, and the Lake Erie Crushers. First pitch for tomorrow's game one is scheduled for 7:05pm and Tom Willms will have the Miller Lite Pre-Game Show at 6:45pm, on 101.9- The Bay.
Coming up on Tuesday, June 21st, it will be another Two for Tuesday event as the Beach Bums host the Washington Wild Things. The Traverse City Beach Bums are working in conjunction with the Alzheimers Association of Traverse City to try and paint the park in purple in order to help bring awareness to Alzheimers. Bring the whole family and sign up for the Walk to End Alzheimers, help spread awareness, and show your support for those affected by this mental illness
The Beach Bums business offices are open from 9am to 6pm, Monday through Friday. Sponsorships, season tickets, group packages, patio tables, and suite, are all currently available for the 2016 season. The Box Office & Gift Ship are now open with non-gameday hours of 10am to 6pm Monday through Friday, 10am to 4pm on Saturday. Wuerfel Park is closed on non-gameday Sundays. Stadium hours are extended on gamedays.
