
Miners' All-Decade Team Returns Saturday

Marion, Ill. - The Southern Illinois Miners will celebrate their 10th anniversary this Saturday night when the team takes on the Normal CornBelters at 7:05 p.m. As part of the celebration, some of the all-time greatest Miners will be in the house as the organization recognizes the All-Decade Team in a pregame ceremony for their excellence in helping to make the Miners one of the most-successful teams in all of independent baseball. In addition, the Miners will have a fireworks show after the game.
Here are some of your favorite Miners who will return to Rent One Park to be honored as some of the greatest in team history:
- Catcher Brendan Akashian (2008, 2010)
- First Baseman Brad Miller (2008-10)
- Second Baseman Ralph Santana (2007 as a player, 2008-present as a coach)
- Third Baseman Nate Hall (2010-11)
- Shortstop Mike Scanzano (2007-08)
- Outfielders Joey Metropoulos (2007-10), Jereme Milons (2009-11, 2013) and Michael Earley (2015)
- Designated Hitter Tim Dorn (2007-08)
- Utility players Will Block (2009-12) and Tony Roth (2008-09)
- Starting pitchers Ryan Bird (2008-10), Joe Augustine (2009-11), David Harden (2011-12) and Chris Little (2007-08)
- Relief Pitcher Jake McMurran (2008-10)
The All-Decade Team was voted upon by fans on Facebook, members of the local media, front office staff members and former/current members of the coaching staff.
The Southern Illinois Miners are the back-to-back Frontier League East Division Champions and the 2012 Frontier League Champions. They have been awarded the Frontier League Organization of the Year award three times since their inception, and also set a new Frontier League attendance record in 2007, their inaugural season.
