Tonight's Matchup: The San Francisco Bulls get back on the road to take on the Bakersfield Condors, after winning two of three on home ice over the weekend. Following a 4-2 win on Friday against the Idaho Steelheads and a 5-3 loss to the Utah Grizzlies on Saturday, the Bulls looked for the rubber match on Sunday against Utah.

The Bulls and Grizzlies were knotted at one after 40 minutes, with Jamie Devane scoring his first pro goal in the first period. In the third period, Utah went up 3-1. Peter Sivak got the Bulls within one with just under three minutes remaining in regulation. The Bulls frantically tried to tie the game in the final moments. With goaltender Thomas Heemskerk pulled for an extra attacker, the Bulls had one final offensive zone draw with just over four seconds remaining. Justin Bowers won the puck back cleanly to defenseman Mikael Tam, whose slap shot just missed the net. The puck rimmed around to defenseman Sacha Guimond, who fired the puck towards the goal. Bowers, camped out at the side of the net, re-directed the puck by goaltender Grant Rollheiser with no time on the clock, forcing overtime.

Following a scoreless overtime, the game went into a shootout. In the skills competition, Utah went up 2-1 after four rounds. Guimond kept the Bulls alive with a nifty deke on Rollheiser. After Heemskerk came up big in the latter half of the fifth round, the shootout went into extra sessions. In the sixth round, Dean Ouellet fooled Rollheiser to put the Bulls up. Heemskerk then stopped Evan Vossen to secure the victory.

Justin Bowers has now recorded points in four straight games, while Kris Belan has points in three straight.

Yesterday, the Bulls acquired defenseman Rob Kwiet from the Greenville Road Warriors, in exchange for future considerations. Kwiet has 10 points (2 goals, 8 assists) in 14 games this season, split between Greenville and the Stockton Thunder. Kwiet, 24, is playing in his fourth year of professional hockey, including 42 games in the American Hockey League. The 6-foot-, 1-inch, 218-pound native of Toronto, Ontario won the Memorial Cup as champion of the Canadian Hockey League while with the Windsor Spitfires in 2008-09. He finished second on the team that season in scoring among defensemen with 67 points (12 goals, 55 assists) in 66 games.

The Bulls jumped ahead of Las Vegas in the standings, and now sit just one point back of the Condors. This will be the fifth meeting between these two Pacific Division rivals. They have split the first four games, each winning one on the road and one at home.

Bakersfield has lost their last two games, but has picked up points in four out of their last five contests. Four of those games have gone into a shootout.

Offensively, the Condors are led by Levi Nelson, who has a team-leading eight assists and 13 points. Defenseman Olivier Malka leads all Condors blueliners with nine points. Scott Greenham and Brian Stewart have split time in net.
