Solar Bears Food Drive:
Hundreds of fans donated food before Sunday's game, and the Solar Bears players were on hand to help distribute the food to needy families on Monday, November 19. The event was held at the Community Food & Outreach Center's Downtown Campus in the early afternoon yesterday.
Matchup:
The Solar Bears and Wings meet up for the third straight game, also marking the final time that Orlando and Kalamzoo will meet up during the regular season. The Solar Bears have won two straight games, with F Olivier Fortier scoring four of the last six Orlando goals. RW Chris Lawrence has meshed seamlessly with Fortier as well, picking up five assists in his first two games. Sunday's contest saw G Hannu Toivonen make his first start as a member of the Solar Bears, stopping 38 of 39 shots to earn the win. Kalamazoo became the first team to outshoot Orlando in 11 games on Sunday, holding a 39-36 edge in shots on goal. The last time the Solar Bears were outshot came against the Florida Everblades on October 19, an 8-2 win for Orlando.
Solar Bears Notes:
Orlando closes out a seven-game home stand today. They are currently 3-2-1-0, with their only two regulation losses coming against the Gwinnett Gladiators, who own the best record in the ECHL... C Ryan Cruthers is one point away from his 250th ECHL career point... G Hannu Toivonen stopped 38 shots on Sunday, setting a new team high for saves in a game... D Sean Lorenz has been activated from the reserve and is expected to play tonight... D Bryce Lampman has been activated from the reserve and is expected to play tonight... D Kyle Medvec has been placed on reserve. He is not expected to play in any of Orlando's games this week... RW B.J. Crombeen has been released by the Solar Bears. Crombeen's availability will continue to be assessed on a week-by-week basis... G Mike Brodeur and D Mike Liambas remain on the 21-day Injured Reserve... The Solar Bears have two players on recall to the Aeros. D Josh Caron skated in Houston's game on Sunday, logging five penalty minutes. D Corbin Baldwin also played on Sunday, picking up two penalty minutes.
Wings Notes:
F Aaron Clarke is one goal shy of 100 his professional career... D Sam Ftorek is tied for first among all ECHL defensemen with 12 assists. His 15 points is tied for second among defensemen... Kalamazoo has lost three straight road games, the highest such skid of the year for the Wings... Kalamazoo is averaging 13.79 penalty minutes per game making them the second-least penalized team in the ECHL.
Solar Bears Add Brad Good:
Good (6'2", 201 lbs.) was invited to the Solar Bears Training Camp in October. He played in both preseason games with Orlando, picking up four penalty minutes (PIM). The Kitchener, Ontario, native has played five games with the Mississippi Surge in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) this season, registering one assist and 13 PIM. He spent last season in the Central Hockey League (CHL) with the Missouri Mavericks, where he had one goal, eight assists, and 106 PIM in 60 games. Good played six regular season and two playoff games for the Florida Everblades in 2010-11 with one assist and 10 PIM in those eight contests.
