Belleville Bulls News Release

ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA - The Belleville Bulls and the Erie Otters met for the first time this season on Saturday night. The Bulls have dropped their last 7 contests but have recently reacquired over age defenceman Adam Bignell from the University of Waterloo. Bignell was not in the line up against the Otters but the news was used a lift for the struggling Bulls. Both clubs were finishing up 3 games in 3 nights. The Bulls opened the scoring and didn't look back, downing the Otters 3-1.

Hungry to snap their current losing skid, the Bulls came out with lots of energy, applying the pressure on the Western Conference leading Otters. The Bulls drew first blood just under halfway through the period. Michael Cramarossa streaked down the wing and wired a wrist shot by Devin Williams at 8:26. Brett Welychka picked up the assist on the games first goal.

The Bulls enjoyed their first power play of the game at 12:48 thanks to a Kurtis MacDermid holding penalty, but the visitors couldn't capitalize on the man advantage. Shots favoured the Bulls 12-10 after the first 20 minutes of play.

The middle frame was fairly even as both clubs had their share of good chances. Both teams saw a power play each but were unsuccessful. The Otters tied the game in the dying minutes of the period when defenceman Travis Dermott beat Charlie Graham with a slap shot from the point that cued a teddy bear toss at the Erie Insurance Arena. Over ager Cory Genovese and forward Trent Fox picked up the assists.

Due to the amount of teddy bears on the ice, the final 2:34 was added to the final period. The Bulls again led by a couple in shots, 24-22.

Looking to escape with the a much needed 2 points, the Bulls continued their strong play. Forward Chad Heffernan, who scored on Friday night in a loss to the Mississauga Steelheads, jumped on a loose puck in front of the Erie goal and made no mistake putting his club on top at 8:55.

Erie netminder Devin Williams skated to the bench in the dying minutes of the 3rd period as the Otters added an extra attacker, hoping to tie up the first regular season meeting between the two clubs. Shortly after Jordan Subban buried his 13th of the year into an empty net to lock up the victory for the Bulls.

The win snaps a 7 game losing streak for the Bulls as they improve to 13-12-1-1. Charlie Graham made 33 saves in the win.

The Bulls return home to the Yardmen Arena on Wednesday, December 3rd as the Travis Konecny and the Ottawa 67's visit the friendly city. Tickets are still available, visit the Bulls Box Office or call (613) 966-8338 for more information.
