Bulls Rally to Beat Clippers

DURHAM, NC - Russ Canzler came through with a go-ahead single in the seventh inning to give the Bulls the lead in a 5-4 victory over Columbus on Wednesday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Canzler also hit the go-ahead home run in game one of the series, and homered in game two as well.

Joe Martinez came on in the seventh inning for the Clippers and walked Bulls center-fielder Desmond Jennings to start the frame. Ray Olmedo moved Jennings to second with a sacrifice bunt, then one out later, Dan Johnson walked. Canzler followed with a single through the hole at shortstop to give the Bulls a 5-4 lead.

The Bulls offense got going in the third inning when Ray Olmedo and Brandon Guyer then hit back-to-back doubles driving home three runs and giving the Bulls the early 3-0 lead.

Chris Bootcheck turned in a quality start for the Bulls going 6.1 innings and allowing three hits and three runs, while striking out a season high six. Cory Wade picked up the win for the Bulls despite and allowing three hits, including a three-run home run to Wes Hodges that tied the game. Jake McGee worked out of a jam in the eighth inning and then worked a perfect ninth to pick up his third save of the season.
