Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC-The Bulls endured a back-and-forth game Friday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park and emerged victorious over the Richmond Braves by a score of 5-4. Durham's magic number over the Charlotte Knights is 14; Charlotte and Pawtucket were tied at five entering the ninth inning at press time.
The Bulls got out to a 3-0 lead by the third inning, courtesy of a two-run home run from Elliot Johnson in the second and a Chris Richard sacrifice fly in the third. The Braves scored two in the sixth with a two-run shot by Jason Perry and pulled ahead with run-scoring singles by Brandon Jones and Barbaro Canizares in the top of the seventh. But the Bulls answered with two more in the bottom of the frame on a Jonny Gomes double and a Wes Timmons throwing error.
Scott Dohmann came on in the eighth and preserved the victory, earning his eighteenth save in two innings of two-hit relief. Juan Salas (4-4, 2.53), who allowed Richmond to take the lead in the seventh, got the win in an inning of work, allowing four hits and two runs. Michael Nix (0-1, 1.93) took the loss, going 1.1 innings and allowing two runs-one unearned-on two hits and two walks.
The Bulls and Braves continue their four-game series Saturday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park at 7:05 p.m. Durham right-hander Wade Davis (3-0, 2.25) will take the mound against Richmond starter Matt DeSalvo (2-11, 4.71).
