December 19, 2013 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Amarillo Bulls News Release
AMARILLO, TX - As the Amarillo Bulls get set to hit the ice tomorrow (Friday) night for the first of two against the Wichita Falls Wildcats, they have added another Alternate Captain for home games.
Mitchell McPherson will be proudly wearing an 'A' on his jersey at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. The gritty forward said it's the first time he has ever had an 'A' on his jersey in his hockey career.
"This is an all-time first for me," said McPherson, a native of Peoria Illinois. "It's a big honor knowing that the Coaching Staff trusts me and believes in me enough to be an Alternate Captain."
McPherson has tallied two goals and added four assists for six points in 30 games this season. This is McPherson's third in the North American Hockey League's South Division. In two previous seasons and 96 games with the former Texas Tornado, McPherson notched 19 goals and 22 assists for 41 points. He had 98 penalty minutes and 128 shots on goal. The 6-2, 210-pound power-forward said the experience he has in the South Division will serve him well.
"I can teach the younger guys what the South Division is all about," said McPherson. "The South is more of a tough, grinding out style of play. That suits my style so I can help with mentoring those guys and prepare for what to expect."
McPherson joins Alternate Captains defensemen Joe Grabowski, Brendan Vetter, as well as forward Matt Sieckhaus. The four players will also assist Mike Davis who was appointed the Bulls fourth team Captain last week.
Don't forget Hockey Is Back at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center tomorrow and Saturday as the Bulls and the Wichita Falls Wildcats hit the ice in a big first place showdown. Santa Claus will arrive on Friday and fans can get their picture taken with them. The Toys For Tots Teddy Bear Toss is set for Saturday night. Fans can bring a new or slightly used teddy bear or stuffed animal to the game and when the Bulls score their first goal, toss the toys onto the ice.
Tickets are available at the Bulls Office located at 301 South Polk Civic Center Box Office and all Panhandle Ticket Outlets. For further information on Group Rates, please call the Bulls Office at 806-242-1122.
