Belleville Bulls News Release
KINGSTON, ON - The Belleville Bulls and the Kingston Frontenacs met for the fourth time this season on Friday night at the Rogers K-Rock Centre. The Frontenacs were seeking revenge as the Bulls have defeated their rivals in the first three meetings. Despite being first on the score sheet, the Bulls fell just short to the Fronts 2-1 in front of 4,600 fans.
On Teddy Bear Toss night at the Rogers K-Rock Centre, the hometown fans were anxious for their squad's first goal. The Fronts put a number of scoring chances on Bulls netminder Charlie Graham jumping out to a 6-0 lead in shots through the first seven minutes of play.
Bulls veteran forward Remi Elie had a couple good chances to give his club the early lead but Lucas Peressini kept the door shut. The first period ended scoreless with the Frontenacs leading 13-6 in shots.
Things got a little chippy between the two rivals in the middle frame. Just under the eleven minute mark, over age defenceman Adam Bignell and Frontenacs blue liner Jacob Graves stepped out of the box and instantly dropped the gloves. Both received game misconducts for the tilt.
The fight seemed to spark the visiting Bulls as they were the first on the scoreboard not long after. Welland, Ontario native Niki Petti buried a centering pass from Jordan Subban for his tenth of the season. Brett Welychka picked up the other assist on the games first goal.
Three minutes later, Finland product Juho Lammikko beat Charie Graham for his seventh of the season as the teddy bears started to fly. Connor McGlynn and Robert Polesello were credited with helpers on the goal that tied it up. Kingston lead 21-15 in shots after 40 minutes.
Both teams came out flying in the third looking for the go ahead marker. Remi Elie and Robert Polesello both got caught hooking, giving each team a man advantage early in the period but neither team could capitalize.
At 11:31 over age left-winger Sam Schutt fired a wrist shot that beat Graham to give the Fronts the 2-1 lead. Ted Nichol and Shawn Tessier picked up helpers on the goal.
The Bulls would add an extra attacker in the dying minutes of the frame but to no avail as the Frontenacs defeated the Bulls for the first time this season.
Charlie Graham stopped 25 shots in the loss as was awarded the games third star. The Bulls fall to 14-13-1-1 and snap a two game win streak.
