Durham Bulls News Release

DURHAM, NC-The Bulls lineup once again struggled to score runs Monday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park as the Norfolk Tides rolled to an 8-2 victory.

Durham had no answer for Norfolk starter Hayden Penn (4-4, 5.08), touching him for only one run in five innings when Andy Cannizaro hit his first homer of the year. Penn allowed five hits and a walk while striking out five to pick up the victory. Leadoff hitter Fernando Perez managed to single twice in three at-bats, walk once and steal his 27th base of the year, but nobody could bring him around to score.

Meanwhile, Norfolk feasted on Bulls pitching. Jeff Niemann (6-3, 3.82) survived his first trip through the Tides lineup unscathed, but he gave up one run in the fourth and then three in the fifth. He ended up taking the loss in six innings of work, allowing six hits, four runs-only three earned-and three walks, though he struck out seven. Scott Moore led Norfolk's onslaught, going 4-for-4 with a three-run home run in the ninth inning, two doubles, four runs batted in, two scored and a walk.

The Bulls and Tides meet again Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. It will be a battle of left-handers, as Raleigh-native Mike Prochaska (2-3, 7.01) will start for Durham and Craig Anderson (1-7, 8.68) will take the mound for Norfolk.
