Durham Bulls News Release

Durham, NC-The Bulls and Knights waited through a two-hour, thirty-minute rain delay Sunday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park only to run into Charlotte knuckleballer Charlie Haeger, who baffled Durham over eight innings of work to defeat the Bulls, 6-3.

Haeger (3-4, 5.37) allowed five hits, two walks and three runs-only one of which was earned-while fanning four Durham batters to halt the Bulls' recent hot streak. Jason Childers came on for Charlotte in the ninth with one Bulls run already in and two runners on to earn his first save of the year, striking out Hector Gimenez to end the fledgling rally.

Durham got a run in the first but did not score again until pushing two across in the ninth inning. Dan Johnson doubled in four at-bats for the Bulls, driving home two, and Joel Guzman brought the other run home with a sacrifice fly.

Ben Hendrickson (3-3, 2.33) took the loss in five innings of work, allowing four hits, two runs-one earned-and three walks with four strikeouts.

The Bulls have a day off Monday before travelling to Charlotte for a two-game set. Right-hander Jeff Niemann (1-1, 2.60) will start for Durham, and righty Jack Egbert (0-2, 6.33) will get the nod for the Knights.
