Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS -- Right-hander Jae Seo breezed through eight scoreless innings, while left fielder Jon Weber went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and two-run double as Durham rolled to a 13-1 win over Indianapolis in front of 10,923 Sunday afternoon at Victory Field.
The Bulls improve to 54-47 overall and 26-23 on the road, while the Indians fall to 50-50 on the season and 29-23 at home. The win puts Durham ahead of Buffalo in the International League's Wild Card race.
Seo (8.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 SO), who retired the first 14 batters he faced and tied a season high for strikeouts, improved to 5-1 with the win in his longest outing since July 4, 2005.
Weber (3-for-5, 2 R, 5 RBI) crushed his first Triple-A dinger of 2007 after DH Brent Butler (2-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBI) scored the game's first run on C Michel Hernandez's (2-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBI) single to center.
Durham busted the game open with eight runs in the second when nine batters stepped to the plate before the Tribe could register two outs. The Bulls tallied six singles, one double, one triple and two walks in the big inning. CF Jason Pridie was the only hitter to not cross the plate in the frame.
The Bulls added a run in the fifth when SS Ben Zobrist (1-for-3, 2 R, 1 RBI) led off with a walk and eventually scored on Butler's double to left.
Indianapolis scored its lone run in the ninth when CF Chris Aguila (1-for-3, 1 R) roped a base knock to right and eventually came plateward on a throwing error by the Durham second baseman.
RHP Runelvys Hernandez (1.1 IP, 8 H, 11 R, 7 ER, 2 BB, 1 SO), who suffered the loss, fell to 0-2 with the Tribe and 0-6 on the season. LHP Juan Perez (3.1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 8 SO), RHP Brian Rogers (2.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 SO) and the Indians pitching staff (16) established new season highs for strikeouts.
Perez had not registered eight punchouts in a game since fanning 11 on July 25, 2000, while Rogers had not reached six K's in a contest since Aug. 8, 2005.
Durham has now won seven of its last eight games, while Indianapolis has dropped 12 of its past 14 overall.
The teams return to Victory Field on Monday at 7 p.m., for the four-game series finale. RHP Mitch Talbot is slated to start for the Bulls, while LHP Michael Tejera is expected to get the nod for the Indians.
The contest will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 6:40 p.m.
It will be Monday Dollar Menu as Hot dogs, popcorn, peanuts, Cracker Jack and potato chips will be available for just $1 each.
