Bullpen Strong in 7-1 Loss

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The Bradenton Marauders struck for seven runs off Clearwater starter Jeb Stefan in the first inning, as the Threshers dropped the series finale 7-1 on Tuesday night.

Dan Child and Lino Martinez combined to toss 8.1 shutout innings out of the bullpen for the Threshers, but Clearwater would not be able to overcome the early deficit.

Stefan (2-6) struck out the first two batters of the ballgame, before Adam Frazier hit a grounder to deep short and beat it out for an infield single.

That opened up a string of eight straight men who would reach base for the Marauders. Taylor Lewis' run-scoring triple made it a 6-0 Bradenton lead and ended the day for Stefan.

Jeff Roy singled off Dan Child to bring the seventh and final run across, before Child struck out Max Moroff to end the inning.

Marauders' starter Chad Kuhl (6-4) cut down four of the first five men he faced on strikes before Anthony Hewitt singled past the third baseman Eric Wood in the second inning. Kuhl would then get Gabriel Lino to ground out to end the frame.

The Threshers' run came in the sixth inning. Roman Quinn drew a seven-pitch walk, and KC Serna followed that up by shooting a single through the right side. After a nine-pitch battle, Brandon Short hit a slow grounder to third that allowed both runners to advance into scoring position.

Chris Serritella then rolled a grounder to short, bringing home Quinn from third to make it a 7-1 game. Serritella, who was just added to the Threshers from AA Reading, was 0-for-2 but walked twice and knocked in the Threshers' lone run.

Child worked a season-high 4.1 innings in relief of Stefan, scattering three hits and one walk while striking out four in the scoreless outing. Lino Martinez also tied a season-high with four shutout innings, permitting only one hit while gathering two strikeouts.

The Threshers (12-45) hit the road for a four-game set against the Palm Beach Cardinals, beginning on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. Clearwater will return home to Bright House Field on Sunday for a 2 p.m. contest against the Daytona Cubs.
