Reading Fightin Phils News Release

The Reading Fightin Phils fell to the Altoona Curve 5-1 on Friday night. The Curve's early pair of homers was enough to take the series 3-1.

Nick Gonzales smoked one deep to left field in the first inning for the first run of the game. Matt Gorksi singled softly in the infield and moved to third on pickoff attempt error. Malcolm Nunez lined a ball up the middle to drive him for a 2-0 lead. Henry Davis knocked his second home run of the series for a four run advantage.

The Curve tacked one on in the third. Gorksi doubled to reach and Nunez singled again to bring him home. Altoona led 5-0.

Reading refused to be shutout as Wendell Rijo walked to reach in the eighth inning. A triple to the deepest part of center by Jhailyn Ortiz drove him in. The R-Phils trailed 5-1 for the rest of the contest.

Andrew Painter got the start going four innings on 73 pitches. He let up five runs on seven hits. The righty did not walk a batter and struck out five.

Mike Adams had three clean frames of work. He allowed just two hits and a walk striking out three.

Andrew Schultz tossed the eighth getting out of a bases loaded jam with a fly ball.
