Daytona Tortugas News Release

Daytona Beach, FL - The Daytona Tortugas bullpen relinquished a three run lead in their fifth consecutive defeat, falling 6-5 against the Fort Myers Miracle Friday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. Daytona left the tying run at third base in the final inning for the second straight night, as they have now lost three straight games by just one run.

Fort Myers kicked off a busy first inning with an RBI groundout from Nick Gordon. But the lead would only hold up for a batter, as Blake Trahan began the bottom of the first with a home run to left field, his first longball of the season.

Daytona used their power to double their lead an inning later, when Blake Butler belted his first home run of the year off of LHP Tyler Jay.

It remained 2-1 all the way to the sixth inning, when Butler was back at it for the Tortugas. With two on and two out, Butler doubled to center to drive in two more runs.

Leading 4-1, RHP Wyatt Strahan stayed on for the seventh. After a leadoff single by Chris Paul, Logan Wade chased Strahan from the game with an RBI triple over Brian O'Grady's head in centerfield. RHP Alex Powers replaced Strahan and allowed Wade to score on a Navarreto groundout to second.

Clinging to the 4-3 lead in the eighth, Powers allowed a lead-off double to Alex Swim, before surrendering the go-ahead two-run homer to Nick Gordon, his first of the year.

Fort Myers took the 5-4 lead to the ninth, when RHP Yorman Landa retired the first two Tortugas of the frame. He proceeded to lose the strike zone, walking the next two batters to give Daytona new life. With two on and two away, Aristides Aquino blooped a single in front of Tanner English in center to score Ty Washington and send the game to extra innings.

Jimmy Hergert remained on for the tenth after two innings of relief, but was chased one batter in. Gordon doubled to left, ending the night for Hergert, and was driven in one batter later on an RBI double by Trey Vavra to push Fort Myers back in front.

Closer RHP Trevor Hildenberger came on in the tenth and, much like Landa, retired the first two batters he faced. After a pair of strikeouts, Hildenberger surrendered a single to Taylor Sparks. Sparks would then steal second, advancing to third on a throwing error from catcher Brian Navaretto. With the tying run 90-feet away and two outs, Butler skied out to English in centerfield to end the threat.

Strahan earned a no-decision, allowing three runs in six innings. Hegert (0-1) took the loss, allowing the decisive run in his two innings of work. Jay earned a no-decision in his second career start, allowing a pair of runs in his five innings. Landa (1-0) got the win, after blowing the save, allowing a run in two innings. Hildenberger notched his third save for his scoreless tenth inning.

The Tortugas continue their series with Fort Myers Saturday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. RHP Tejay Antone (0-0, 1.80 ERA) will try to get Daytona off their skid, while Fort Myers counters with RHP Keaton Steele (0-0, 1.59). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 P.M. with the Chili's pre-game show beginning at 6:45 P.M. Fireworks will follow the conclusion of the game.
