VERO BEACH - As a part of the third annual Jackie Robinson Day Celebration Game, the St. Lucie Mets defeated the Brevard County Manatees Friday, 4-0. The game took place at the historic Dodgertown, with net proceeds of the game benefiting community service programs through the United Way of Indian River County.

En route to the victory, the Mets took advantage of some Manatees' mishaps. With one out in the top of the fourth inning, a ground ball base hit allowed Ahmed Rosario to reach base. After another hit by Michael Katz, a fielder's choice allowed Tomas Nido to reach base, and Ahmed to advance to third. During the subsequent at-bat, Nido took off in an attempt to steal second base. Houle faked a throw to second, and snapped a throw back to third looking to get Ahmed heading to plate. However, Houle's throw went into left, allowing Ahmed to score. Meanwhile, Nido, who had successfully stolen second, advanced to third headed for home. Omar Garcia's throw to the plate was high and Houle could not haul it in, allowing Nido to score for the Met's second run on the play. Hanhold was able to escape the inning with a strikeout of Kevin Taylor, but the damage was done and the Mets led, 2-0.

The Mets then added their third run of the game in the top of the seventh, utilizing small ball to score the run. Kevin Taylor walked and then advanced to second on a passed ball, and then to third on the fielder's choice. With one out, Patrick Biondi hit a sacrifice fly to left. With two outs in the top of the ninth inning, the Mets notched their finally tally in impressive fashion, as Johan Urena belted a solo home run over the palm trees in right field.

St. Lucie starter Corey Oswalt registered the win, held the Manatees at bay during his six innings of work, giving up two base hits each to Johnny Davis and Angel Ortega, while walking Dustin Houle once. While scattering the five baserunners, Oswalt struck out nine Manatees batters.

Manatees' starter Eric Hanhold posted a strong effort for Brevard County, pitching into the sixth, giving up six hits and two runs, while striking out three.

The Manatees (2-7) will face off against St. Lucie (6-3) once again, this time back at Space Coast Stadium Saturday.
