Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies News Release
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - In a closed ceremony today, Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies Vice President and General Manager Dan Belisle announced that the team will retire captain Stefan Rivard's #21 jersey prior to the start of the 2004-05 season. Rivard announced his retirement following the Bullies 2-1 overtime loss in Peoria on Tuesday that eliminated Atlantic City from the playoffs.
"I wanted to thank Stefan for his dedication and loyalty to this organization over the years, and I felt that this was the most proper way to express our thanks," said Belisle.
Rivard, 30, finishes a remarkable nine-year professional career as the Bullies all-time franchise leader in goals, assists, points, and penalty minutes. The New Liskeard, ON native ranked third on the Bullies in scoring in 2003-04 with 26 goals and 66 points, nearly equaling his career-best 69-point season in 2001-02. He recorded 1500 penalty minutes on November 7 in Trenton, his 400th career point on December 14 in Wheeling, and played in his 500th career game on December 20 vs. Reading at Boardwalk Hall.
Rivard spent seven seasons with the Bullies franchise, the longest of any player in organization history. Rivard and defenseman Ian Walterson are the final two players that have remained with the team since their relocation from Birmingham prior to the start of the 2001-02 season.
In 543 career games, Rivard tallied 188 goals, 261 assists, and 1,635 penalty minutes.
The Bullies will raise Rivard's #21 jersey to the rafters at Boardwalk Hall on Opening Night 2004.
