July 26, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies News Release

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies of the ECHL have announced that center Brett Smith and defenseman Ben Wallace have each agreed to terms on a contract for the 2004-05 season. Smith and Wallace are the first rookie signings for Head Coach Matt Thomas.

Smith, 22, comes to Atlantic City after completing his four-year collegiate career at Ferris State University in March 2004. An assistant captain during his senior season, Smith led the Bulldogs in scoring with 13 goals and 33 points in 38 games, including 11 multiple-point games and two game-winning goals. The Guelph, ON native finished with 27 goals and 61 points in 153 games at Ferris State.

Wallace, 22, also joins the Bullies after a successful collegiate career at ECAC power Cornell University. Touted as one of the most dependable blue liners in the NCAA, Wallace finished second among Big Red defensemen in scoring last year with 2 goals and 9 points in 30 games. A native of London, ON, Wallace was a career-best plus-18 during the 2002-03 season, and was a key factor in the Big Red ranking as one of the best defensive teams ever, allowing just 1.36 goals per game.

"Today we landed a pair of players that we fully expect to make significant impacts," said Thomas. "At 5'8, Brett plays the game a lot like Jon Cullen and has a similar scoring ability. Ben on the other hand will continue to strengthen an already solid defensive corps. I'm very excited about where our team stands right now on both ends of the ice."
