Texas Wildcatters News Release

BEAUMONT, TX (July 26, 2004) – Texas Wildcatters Head Coach Robert Dirk announced today the Wildcatters and forward Josh Kern have agreed to terms for the 2004-05 season. As per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 6-foot, 210 pound Kern, who is 26-years-old, played the last two seasons with the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL. He had 7 goals, 11 assists for 18 points and 77 penalty minutes in 28 games last season. Kern is entering his third full-season of professional hockey after playing three years at Minnesota State University-Mankato. The Anchorage, Alaska native made his professional debut at the end of the 2001-02 season with the Anchorage Aces. His career totals are 14 goals and 30 points along with 176 penalty minutes.

"Josh is a big, strong, physical winger who can score clutch goals," said Dirk. "He brings attitude and emotion to the ice, which fits in well with our team mentality."

"This will be the first time I have played hockey in the south and I'm looking forward to the free-flowing style of play," said Kern. The transition to Texas will be easier because Kern has relatives throughout the state. "I'm excited and want to use this opportunity to make it to the next level."

Kern is the tenth player to agree to terms with the Wildcatters.

The Wildcatters will open their second season on the road against the defending ECHL Eastern Conference Champion Florida Everblades. The home opener is Saturday, October 30 against the Louisiana IceGators. Season tickets for the 2004-05 season are now on sale. For as little as $50.00, you can reserve your seat for the second year of Wildcatters hockey in Southeast Texas.
