Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska â Veteran forward Kimbi Daniels and the Alaska Aces have agreed to a one-year contract for the 2004-05 season.
Daniels, who will turn 32 this January, enjoyed his first winning season in Anchorage last year and led the team in scoring with 61 points on 19 goals and 42 assists in 70 games. He scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, in a 5-4 regular season win at Fresno February 16 and also lit the lamp in each of the last two games of the first round playoff sweep over San Diego.
Daniels has been with the Aces longer than any other club over the course of his 14-year, 17-city pro career. Originally drafted in the third round by Philadelphia in 1990, he appeared in 27 games for the Flyers but suffered a major knee injury that hindered his progress at the NHL level. Daniels won a Kelly Cup while playing for the Charlotte Checkers in 1996 and helped lead Hamilton to the Calder Cup (AHL) Finals a year later. Entering his fifth year as an Ace, Kimbi ranks fifth on the club's all-time list in points (275), assists (168), and penalty minutes (547).
The Aces will meet the Greenville Grrrowl in a two-game preseason series at Sullivan Arena October 13-14. Alaska opens up the 2004-05 regular season October 22-23 in Idaho against the defending ECHL champions, after which the Aces will tangle with San Diego in their home opener October 29. Season tickets are on sale now. KFQD 750 AM will broadcast all Alaska Aces games, with the live feed also available at www.alaskaaces.com. For season ticket information, please call 258-ACES.
