Bullfrogs Unable to Comeback against Rafters After Falling Behind Early
July 1, 2016 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis. - The Bullfrogs found themselves behind the eight ball in the very first inning as they fell behind the Rafters 4-0. Austin Hancock (Lenoir Rhyne) faced adversity for the first time this season, he was forced from competition after the first as he surpassed the 35 pitches in an inning in the first. The Bullfrogs would fall to the Rafters 11-3.
The scoring began when Joe Wainhouse (Washington) hit a two run double off the left field fence to score Patrick Cromwell (Clemson) and Jake Lumley (Canisius). The Rafters would score two more runs before the third out was recorded.
The Rafters would push the lead to double digits in the fourth inning as they scored six runs on five hits and two walks. Peter Castillo (Palm Beach State) was unable to get out of the inning as he was replaced by Matt McCarthy (Penn State). The score after four was 11-0 in favor of the Rafters.
The offense was slowed down by Rafter starting pitcher Enrique Zamora (Calumet College of St. Joseph) as he went five scoreless innings, not allowed a hit until the fifth inning. It wasn't until the eighth inning that the Bullfrogs got the offense moving. Quincy Nieporte (Florida State) led off the inning with a solo shot to left field. Then back to back hits from Jonah Davis (UC-Berkeley) and Randell Kanemaru (Columbia) put runners at second and third. Both Davis and Kanemaru would come around to score off of base hits by Chris Botsoe (Louisville) and Laren Eustace (Indiana).
The Bullfrogs now drop to 12-20 on the season and now in a tie at the bottom of the south division with the Lakeshore Chinooks. Tomorrow the Bullfrogs head to Wausau to play the Wisconsin Woodchucks. First pitch is at 6:35pm.
