
Bullfrogs Sweep Rafters Behind Masterful Performance from Springer

Green Bay, Wis. - Tonight the Bullfrogs dominated the Rafters on their way to their third win in a row. The 8-2 victory also earned them a sweep of the Rafters, they finish the season series against Wisconsin Rapids 4-4. Stuart Springer (St. Edwards) picked up his first win of the season behind one the best performance from a Bullfrogs starting pitcher this season.
Before Springer took the mound, the Bullfrogs took it to the Rafters early. With runners at second and third, Quincy Nieporte (Florida State) crushed a ball over the left field fence for a three run home run. Two batters later, Hill Alexander (Midland) hit a solo shot to dead center. It was 4-0 when Springer threw his first pitch of the game.
Springer went out for the Bullfrogs and dominated the Rafters. Through the first eight innings, he was one over the minimum. Springer induced three ground ball double plays and struck out seven Rafters. Working on a complete game shutout, Springer ran into trouble in the ninth inning. Springer running out of gas, started to lose some command with his fastball. He walked four batters in the ninth inning, one those walks brought in the first run for the Rafters. Springer ' s night would be finished as he went eight and two-third innings. Dominick Golubiewski (Madison College) came in a finished off the Rafters.
The Bullfrogs put the game out of reach in the fourth inning as they pushed their lead to eight runs. Austin Clemons (Louisville) came up with Bullfrogs on second and third, he turned on a fastball and sent a ball down the left field line for a double. Both runs would come around and score. Clemons would come around and score on an error by shortstop Jake Lumley (Canisius).
Clemons finished the game with three hits and two RBIs. Parker Coss (UC-Irvine), Matt Hoeg (Iowa Western CC), and Brian Lees (Southeast Missouri State) all finished with one hit.
Tomorrow, the Bullfrogs remain on the road as they travel to Wausau to face the Wisconsin Woodchucks. Andrew Mahoney (Mississippi State) will make his second start of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm.
