Green Bay Rockers News Release
Madison, Wis. - The Bullfrogs started their stretch of eight road games in eight days on Saturday night in Madison for the start of a two-game series against the Mallards. Green Bay's starter, Zac Westcott (Nova Southeastern) threw six and one-thirds innings, while the Bullfrogs offense provided six runs of support as Green Bay won their fourth straight game, defeating Madison on Saturday, 6-4.
After Madison tied the game at three in the fourth inning, it did not take long for the Bullfrogs to regain the lead as they plated two runs in the fifth inning. Matt Beaty (Belmont) hit into an RBI groundout that scored Matthew de la Rosa (Lenoir-Rhyne) for the go-ahead run, and Dean Long (Emporia State) scored from second on an error by the Mallards that put Green Bay up by two runs.
After Madison scored a run in their half of the fifth inning to pull within one run at 5-4, the Bullfrogs added one more run in the sixth inning. Johnny Bekakis (Long Beach State) started the inning with a double and moved up to third on a balk. Brian Celsi (California) then came to plate and knocked home Bekakis with an RBI single to put Green Bay up, 6-4.
Westcott, making his second start of the season on Saturday, earned the win for the Bullfrogs. The senior right-hander gave up four runs on seven hits to the Mallards while striking out five.
Ivan Vieitez (Lenoir-Rhyne) threw a perfect ninth inning to pick up his fourth save of the season.
Sterling Sharp (Eastern Michigan) started for the Mallards and took the loss. Sharp threw five innings and gave up six runs and six hits to the Bullfrogs on Saturday.
Green Bay jumped out to an early lead on Saturday night, scoring three runs in the first three innings. In the first inning, Ryan Koziol (Gulf Coast State) hit into an RBI groundout that scored Long who led the inning off with a single.
In the third inning, Ryan Howell (Chabot) hit his team-high ninth home run of the season, a two-run shot, that gave the Bullfrogs the 3-0 lead.
Madison came back to tie the game at three in the fourth inning. Austin Barr (Stanford) had a two RBI double in the frame while Alex Bacon (North Florida) tied the game with a sacrifice fly, before Green Bay pulled back ahead in the fifth inning.
The final game of the two-game series in Madison will commence on Sunday. First pitch is slated for 5:05 p.m. from Warner Park in Madison.
