Green Bay Rockers News Release

La Crosse, Wis. - Both teams entered tonight's matchup between Green Bay and La Crosse at an even 2-2, looking to rebound from a blowout defeat on Friday night. Unfortunately for La Crosse, Saturday night was much of the same from the night before as the Bullfrogs brought their lumber to the "Lumber Yard," blowing out La Crosse by a score of 7-0.

Green Bay started the game with a 2-0 lead after a first inning rally started by a Matt Beaty walk and a Jamie Ritchie single. Ivan Vieitez's RBI single counted for the first run while a Ryan Koziol RBI sac fly was responsible for the second.

The Bullfrogs had an opportunity to open an even bigger lead but were cut short by great defense from the Loggers. The first inning ended on a fully extended, diving catch from Logger shortstop Sulliam Rios Reyes, robbing Jack hall of an RBI single. Then, in the following inning, Paul Jacobson was caught stealing after reaching base on a hit-by-pitch. The inning ended on an out at third after Dane Hutcheon was thrown out on a Jimmy Coady single by Logger right fielder Aaron Knapp.

The lead was extended to 3-0 on a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded to Jacobson in the third. In the fourth, Beaty added his second hit of the game that was followed by a Ritchie hit-by-pitch. The next batter Vieitez pulled a 3-run home run over the right-center field wall to extend the lead to 6-0. Beaty matched the Vieitez home run with a solo shot of his own in the seventh.

Bullfrogs starter Ryan McCourt pitched well before running into trouble in the bottom of the sixth. McCourt issued two walks and then an infield single with one out in the inning. Matt Sabel came in and got out of the jam with one pitch after a Mike Nadratowski fly-out to center field and the ensuing outfield assist from Vieitez to Ritchie at home to complete the double play.

Sabel ran into trouble of his own allowing the first two Loggers to reach in the top of the 7th. However, Sabel preserved the shutout after a fielder's choice to third and a 4-6-3 double play to the next batter to get out of the jam.

Luke Watson pitched the eighth, striking out the side. He now has eleven strikeouts in just 4.2 innings pitched on the year. Josh Glick closed out the game in the ninth.

McCourt earned the win after 5.1 innings of scoreless ball. McCourt struck out three, walked three, and allowed four hits. He also topped out at 90 mph on the radar gun. Gordon Cardenas took the loss allowing seven runs in seven innings. Beaty went 3-4 with a home run, walk, and three runs scored. Vieitez finished 2-4 with a home run and four runs batted in. Dean Long extended his hitting streak to five games. The bullpen extended their streak of consecutive innings without an earned run allowed to 17.1 innings behind the efforts of Sabel, Watson, and Glick.
