Bullfrogs Rally Late, But Comeback Attempt Falls Short
July 20, 2012 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
The Bullfrogs rallied with three runs in the seventh inning, but couldn't mount a comeback and lost for the first time at Witter Field this season, falling 8-6 to the Rafters on Thursday night.
The Rafters led throughout the game, taking a 3-0 lead in the second inning off of Green Bay starter Parker Schrage. Brandon Downs, Austin Neary, and Brandon Hohl scored on RBIs from Josh Cyr, Nick Ammirati and Sean Godfrey.
The Rafters added another in the third. After a leadoff double, Alex Bacon later scored on an RBI fielder's choice from Austin Neary.
Justin Seager and Ransom LaLonde led off the fourth inning with back to back solo home runs, cutting the lead to 4-2. It was the first time the Bullfrogs have hit back to back shots all season long, and it was the second home run of the season for both Seager and LaLonde.
The Rafters came right back with two of their own in the bottom half of the fourth frame. Cry and Godfrey both scored on Jordan Dreiling's two-run single to left field to make the score 6-2.
The Bullfrogs cut it to 6-3 with another run in the top of the fifth. Ransom LaLonde drove home Collin Shaw with a single to right field.
The Rafters responded in the sixth inning. Josh Cyr led off with a solo home run, his third of the season, to extend the Wisconsin Rapids lead to 7-3.
The Bullfrogs' biggest rally came in the seventh when the cut the lead to one. Rafters reliever Cam Seidl walked Shaw and Brooks Orton and then hit Seager to load the bases with nobody out. He was relieved by Skyler Debilzen, who gave up back to back singles to LaLonde and Jason McMurray. Shaw scored on LaLonde's single and Orton and Seager scored on McMurray's single, as the Bullfrogs brought the score to 7-6.
The Rafters tacked on an unearned run in the bottom half of the seventh off of Bullfrogs' reliever Alex Abrams. Brandon Downes scored on a Neary single to left. An error by Brian Celsi allowed the run to come in.
Seth Fuller closed with door with a seven out save for the Rafters, his eighth of the season.
Schrage (0-1) took the loss. He was relieved by Ben Graff, who threw two innings in relief. Abrams threw two innings for the Bullfrogs.
The Bullfrogs next return home on Friday to take on the Lakeshore Chinooks. Game time is 7:05 PM. Join us at Joannes Stadium for our Girls Night Out Beach Party and Fireworks Fridays. Fireworks light up Frogville every Friday home game.
