Alexandria Beetles News Release

Alexandria, MN - In a wild shootout at Knute Nelson, the Waterloo Bucks (26-25, 7-9) held off the Alexandria Beetles (21-30, 8-8) on Friday night.

After trailing 6-2 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Beetles rallied for five off the Waterloo bullpen only to watch the Bucks retake the lead in the top of the eighth on a two-run homerun, their fourth long-ball of the game. Alexandria put a pair in scoring position with two outs in the ninth but Buck closer Kellen Camus locked down his third save with a strikeout.

Waterloo scored single runs in six of the first seven innings to open up their advantage off Beetle starter Scott Sanderson and reliever Michael Reed. Kevin Kaczmarski singled in a run in the first, Thomas Lindauer doubled home a single run in the second, and a Nico Zych single in the fourth put the visitors ahead 3-1.

Alexandria's lone run before the sixth came in the bottom of the first when Ben Moore broke an 0-10 slump with an RBI single to score Matt Lowenstein.

Up 3-1 going to the fifth, the Bucks used a power surge to extend their lead. Solo shots from Austin Barrett and Benny Roberts put Waterloo in front 5-1 going to the bottom of the sixth when the Beetles came to life against Buck starter Derek Lamacchia. A Robert Case single drove in a run to cut the deficit to 5-2 and after Josh Guerra walked, Lamacchia was pulled with the bases loaded and one out. But reliever Mikey Ramirez induced a Lowenstein double play to retire the side.

Another Waterloo homerun, this from Kaczmarski, extended the lead back to four before the Beetles took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the seventh as eight men came to the plate and Moore delivered an RBI triple, Jimmy Pickens an RBI single, and Case a go-ahead three run homer with two outs, his third bomb of the summer as Alexandria took a 7-6 lead.

That set the stage for the late inning dramatics as Barrett hit his second home run of the night, a two-run shot to put his Bucks back in front 8-7.

In the ninth, Matt Beaty singled with two outs and Case doubled pinch-runner Dylan Raper to third before Camus' game-ending strikeout of Guerra.

The teams play the middle game of their three game set at 7:05 CDT Saturday.
