Green Bay Rockers News Release

Green Bay, WI. - The host Green Bay Bullfrogs (12-27) had base runners at third and second base with two outs in the ninth inning, but the visiting Kalamazoo Growlers (25-13) recorded the game-ending strikeout to secure the narrow 5-4 victory at Joannes Stadium Friday evening. The Bullfrogs suffer their eighth consecutive loss and drop to 0-5 against Kalamazoo this season.

Kalamazoo grabbed the early lead in the opening frame on a RBI walk from Zach Daniels to put the visitors up 1-0. Green Bay took their first lead in the second inning as Luke Robinson (Sophomore, Western Carolina) scored on an error followed by a sacrifice fly from Brian Davis (Freshman, Gordon State College) scoring Andre Antone (Freshman, UC Irvine) to put the Bullfrogs in front 2-1.

The Growlers tied the score at 2-2 in the third inning on a sacrifice fly before a two-run blast from Matthew Acosta (Sophomore, USC) in the bottom of the third gave the Frogs a 4-2 advantage on one swing of the bat. The Bullfrogs were held scoreless for the remainder of the contest.

Kalamazoo began to chip away at the deficit in the fourth inning on a RBI infield single by Jonathan Foster to make it a 4-3 game. The Growlers had the bases loaded with one out in the fourth, but Green Bay reliever Ben Keizer (Sophomore, Univ. of Michigan) tallied back-to-back strikeouts to escape the jam and keep the one-run Bullfrogs advantage.

The visitors took back the lead with a two-spot in the top of the seventh inning. Kalamazoo's rally began with Daniels scoring on a wild pitch to knot the score at 4-4. Cayman Richardson then blooped a RBI single into right-center field to put the Growlers back on top 5-4. Green Bay threatened with the tying run at third base and winning run at second, but Growlers closer Mason Shinabery posted the game-ending strikeout to seal the Kalamazoo triumph.

Robinson and Alejandro Gonzalez (Freshman, Hillsborough CC) each finished 2-for-4 to lead the Bullfrogs offensive attack. Acosta went 1-for-4 with one run scored and two RBIs on his home run, while Esteban Cardoza-Oquendo (Freshman, Navarro College) was 1-for-3 at the dish.

Kalamazoo starting pitcher Tommy Sommer earned the win, improving to 4-0. Green Bay relief pitcher David Toth (Freshman, Hillsdale College) took the loss, falling to 0-3. Keizer was solid in relief for the Bullfrogs, tossing three scoreless innings with one hit allowed and five strikeouts. Shinabery earned his fourth save of the season.

Both teams return to action tomorrow night for the two-game series finale at Joannes Stadium as the Kalamazoo Growlers play their final game in Green Bay for the 2018 campaign. First pitch is slated for a 6:35 p.m. start from Titletown.
