Green Bay, Wis.- The Green Bay Bullfrogs defeated the first-place Kenosha Kingfish 10-7 in an offensive showdown at Joannes Stadium on Sunday.
The Bullfrogs outhit the Kingfish 12-9 and scored in all but two innings, as they improved their record to 13-11 on the season.
Ty Blankmeyer entered the game in the second inning after starting second baseman Jack Strunc left with an injury knocking down a ball in the infield. Blankmeyer stepped in and reached base in all four of his plate appearances with a pair of singles, a double and a walk with two RBI, two stolen bases and a run scored.
Matt McCarthy earned his first win of the season in relief with two scoreless innings of work, and Callahan Brown picked up the loss for the Kingfish.
After a pair of walks to lead off the game, Zach Weigel stole third to put runners at the corners. Bullfrogs' starter Parker Hamilton made a pickoff attempt to first to put Nick Sergakis in a rundown, but Weigel was able to score on the play.
The Bullfrogs came right back in the bottom half of the inning. Paul Jacobson led off with a four-pitch walk, stole second and advanced to third on Robb Paller's single. Danny Rosenbaum singled to right-centerfield to score Jacobson.
Two batters later, Desi Ammons hit an opposite-field single down that plated Paller to give the Bullfrogs the lead. Green Bay extended its lead to 3-1 on a fielder's choice to the shortstop hit by Mikey Duarte.
With one out in the bottom of the third, Ryan Donovan hit a line-drive solo shot to the Leinenkugel's Fan Deck in right field for his team-leading fourth home run.
The Kingfish answered with a three-run top of the fourth. Alex Borglin scored on a sacrifice hit by Jason Scholl for the second out. On the first pitch of the next at bat, Brody Westmoreland hit a two-run home run inside the right field foul pole to tie the game.
Green Bay grabbed the lead right back in the bottom of the fourth with RBI base hit for Blankmeyer.
Following a walk and a wild pitch, Mitch Gasbarro doubled down the right-field line to score Weigel and tie the game at five. McCarthy came into the game and got a double-play groundout to end the threat.
Blankmeyer hit a RBI double to left-centerfield to give the Bullfrogs the lead in the bottom of the sixth, followed by run-scoring singles for Paul Jacobson and Danny Rosenbaum to give Green Bay an 8-5 advantage.
Alex Dunlap doubled off the wall to score a run in the seventh for the Kingfish to cut the lead to two, but the Bullfrogs added an insurance run in the seventh with a bloop single by Connor Ross to make it a 9-6 Green Bay lead.
The Kingfish kept the game close with a booming, solo home run off the scoreboard in right-centerfield for designated hitter Jason Scholl, but Jake Stolley finished the top of the eighth with a pair of strikeouts.
Once again, Green Bay came right back with a run in the eighth to increase the lead to 10-7. Desi Ammons singled to score Caleb Ratzman, who came on as a pinch runner.
Jeremy Graf pitched a scoreless ninth inning and earned the save for Green Bay.
