HAMILTON, ONT. - Hamilton Bulldogs defenceman Mac Bennett scored two goals to lead the Hamilton Bulldogs (13-10-5-0) to a 5-2 win over the St. John's IceCaps (11-14-5-1) at FirstOntario Centre on Wednesday evening.

IceCaps forward Carl Klingberg got his team on the board first at 11:08 of the opening period, assisted by forward John Albert and defenceman Mike Cornell.

Bennett tied the game 1-1 with a point shot on the power play for his third goal of the season at 5:57 of the second period. Defenceman Darren Dietz and forward Daniel Carr drew assists.

At 10:45 of the middle frame, Hamilton forward Christian Thomas buried a wrist shot from the slot for his eighth goal of the year, assisted by Dietz and forward Charles Hudon. With the assist, Hudon extended his current point streak to four games.

Just over three minutes into the third period, Bennett notched his second goal of the night and fourth of the season, again on the power play, to give Hamilton a 3-1 lead, with assists from Carr and forward T.J. Hensick.

'Dogs defenceman Davis Drewiske beat IceCaps goaltender Peter Budaj five hole for his second goal of the season to extend the lead to 4-1 at 7:49 of the third period, with an assist by forward Drayson Bowman. With the assist, Bowman extended his current point streak to five games.

Albert got the IceCaps back within two with less than four minutes to play, but that's as close as his club would get. Forward Jason Jaffray and Klingberg collected assists.

With less than a minute to go, Hamilton forward Jake Dowell potted an empty netter for his first goal of the season, assisted by defenceman Joe Finley, to seal the 5-2 victory for the Bulldogs.

Mike Condon made 37 stops on 39 shots for the Bulldogs in the win, while Budaj made 26 saves on 30 shots for the IceCaps in the loss.

Hamilton went 2-for-2 on the power play, while St. John's was 0-for-2 with a man advantage.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 19 when they'll host the IceCaps at FirstOntario Centre at 7:30 p.m.
