Pirates Reassign Southorn to Gwinnett

Saco, ME - The Portland Pirates today announced that they have reassigned defenseman Jordon Southorn to their ECHL affiliate, the Gwinnett Gladiators.

Southorn, a 6-foot-3, 200 pound defenseman from Montreal, Quebec, has played eight games for Portland this season, totaling four minutes in penalties with a plus-4 rating.

During his earlier stint with the Gladiators this season, Southorn played in five games and scored two goals and three assists for five points. He also collected six penalty minutes and a plus-three rating.

Southorn was originally assigned to Gwinnett from Portland on October 27. He was recalled by the Pirates on November 13.

Originally selected in the fourth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabres, Southorn signed a one-year, two-way AHL/ECHL contract with Portland on July 31. He played one game for the Pirates during the 2013-14 season on a professional tryout, notching two assists.

He spent most of last season in the ECHL with the Elmira Jackals and Fort Wayne Komets. In a combined 56 games, Southorn totaled 13 goals, 23 assists, and 36 points, all career highs for the 24 year-old who is currently in his fifth professional season.

Prior to turning pro, Southorn played four seasons for the Prince Edward Island Rocket of the QMJHL.

He is expected to join the Gladiators in time for their road game tonight in Estero, Florida against the Florida Everblades.
