Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ONT. - Hamilton Bulldogs forward Gabriel Dumont scored twice in his first game back from a stint with the Montreal Canadiens to provide all the 'Dogs (24-18-6-0) offence in a 2-1 win over the Iowa Wild (17-31-1-1) at FirstOntario Centre on Tuesday night. The win was Hamilton's eighth in the club's past nine games.
After a scoreless first period, Iowa forward Michael Keranen opened the scoring 1:03 into the middle stanza when he cut to the net from the corner and lifted a wrister over Hamilton goaltender Mike Condon. Forwards Olivier Archambault and Jason Gregoire collected assists.
At 14:40 of the second period, Bulldogs forward Gabriel Dumont tipped a shot by forward Shane Bakker past Wild goaltender John Curry for his 13th goal of the season to tie the game, 1-1. Forward Stefan Fournier had a second assist on the play. Bakker's assist was his first career American Hockey League point, while Fournier's secondary helper was his first point of the 2014-15 season.
The teams traded 10 shots aside in the third period, but the only puck to count came at 13:01 of the final frame when Dumont buried his team-leading 14th goal of the season for the eventual game winner. Defenceman Bobby Shea had the only assist.
In the last minute of play, Dumont had a chance to notch the first 'Dogs hat trick in almost two years into an empty net, but he was denied by a miraculous kick save by a Wild defender.
In the dying seconds, Iowa pressed for the tie, but a block by Hamilton defenceman Davis Drewiske and a toe save by Condon preserved the victory.
Condon made 24 saves on 25 shots for the Bulldogs in the win, while Curry stopped 33 of 35 shots faced for the Wild in the loss.
Hamilton went 0-for-5 on the power play, while Iowa was 0-for-2 with a man advantage.
