St. John's IceCaps News Release
Kyle MacKinnon continued his hot play with a goal and two assists and rookie goaltender Connor Hellebuyck notched his second consecutive shutout as the St. John's IceCaps defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack 3-0 at Mile One Centre on Tuesday night.
Blair Riley and Keaton Ellerby also scored for St. John's, which has now won two straight at home.
Riley started the scoring early in the game as he planted himself in the slot and perfectly one-timed a pass from MacKinnon behind Hartford starter Yann Danis at 6:48.
The IceCaps held a 2-0 lead after the opening period thanks to a shorthanded goal from Ellerby. As Carl Klingberg used his speed to gain ground heading into the Wolf Pack zone, he dished a perfect behind-the-back pass to Ellerby who made a quick move and snapped the puck low on Danis' glove side at 10:18.
The score remained the same after the second frame as the IceCaps continued their strong two-way play and held the Wolf Pack to just two shots in the period.
MacKinnon sealed the deal with an empty-netter with 15 seconds remaining in the contest. John Albert blocked a shot in front of his own goaltender and saw an open MacKinnon streaking toward the middle of the ice. He found MacKinnon, who slid a perfect shot into the open net to guarantee the win.
The IceCaps and Wolf Pack return to action at Mile One Centre tomorrow night, Wednesday, February 11 for the final game of the two-game set. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at the Mile One Box Office, by phone at (709) 576-7657 or www.mileonecentre.com.
