Dane Byers to Miss Remainder of Season

February 10, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release

HERSHEY, Pa. - The Hershey Bears announced today that team captain Dane Byers will miss the remainder of the 2014-2015 season and any subsequent playoffs to undergo shoulder surgery. The announcement was made by Bears president/general manager Doug Yingst.

Byers, 28, suffered the injury earlier in the season.

"The strength just hasn't been there since it happened," Byers said. "Having the surgery at this time will help me be ready for training camp next season. Obviously it's disappointing. But I feel that the team we have is more than capable of making a great run through the playoffs. I'll still be around the team to support the guys, and will be doing my rehab with the training staff here."

The 6-3, 205-pound native of Nipawin, Saskatchewan has recorded 19 points (seven goals, 12 assists) in 43 games this season, and has accumulated 54 points (21 goals, 33 assists) and 313 penalty minutes in his 121 games in Hershey. He has served as team captain for the last two seasons, and was first named the Bears' 41st captain in team history on October 4, 2013.

There are no immediate plans to name a new team captain at this time.
