Cleveland Monsters News Release

Amassing a season-high 40 shots on goal, the Lake Erie Monsters (21-18-4-3) poured on the pressure in the third period, but goalie John Muse helped his Charlotte Checkers (17-25-5-1) hang on to hand the Monsters a 2-1 defeat Tuesday at Quicken Loans Arena. Paul Carey netted the only goal for the Monsters, which came in the opening minute of the third period. The Monsters will try to snap their two-game losing skid Thursday at 7:00 p.m. when they host the Checkers in the back half of the two-game midweek set.

Charlotte took a 1-0 lead during a delayed penalty situation when Alex Aleardi centered a pass to the front of the net that was angled in by Phil DiGiuseppe at the 15:46 mark of the first period.

Charlotte took a 2-0 lead when Aleardi tapped in a rebound from a Danny Biega point shot at 1:05 of the second period. Aleardi's goal marked the last time the Checkers scored against Monsters netminder Calvin Pickard Tuesday evening, but it also proved to be the eventual game-winner.

Paul Carey scored on a breakaway 26 seconds into the third period when he flipped a backhand top-shelf for his 13th goal of the season, with assists to Karl Stollery and Ben Street. Muse shut down the Monsters over the rest of the period, carrying Charlotte to a 2-1 win.

The Monsters and Checkers meet again Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Thursday's game airs live on AM 1420 "˜The Answer'.
