Bulldogs Defeat Amerks

HAMILTON, ON - Marcel Hossa had his first two-goal game of the season and helped lead the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 4-1 victory over the Rochester Americans in front of 5,009 fans at Copps Coliseum on Wednesday night.

The AHL's North Division leading Bulldogs now have a record of 27 wins, 15 losses, 7 ties and 2 overtime losses on the season.

Rochester's Chris Thornburn opened the game's scoring at the 11:24 mark of the first period as he fired a rebound into the Bulldogs' net.

However, that would be the only scoring for the Amerks, as the Bulldogs would score four unanswered goals to win the game 4-1.

Earning goals for the Bulldogs were Eero Somervuori, Benjamin Carpentier and Hossa (2).

In goal Eric Fichaud made 18 saves and picked up his 14th win of the season. Rochester's Ryan Miller suffered the loss, despite stopping 31 shots on the night.

The Bulldogs and Amerks failed to score on the power play. Hamilton was 0 for 1 with the man-advantage, while Rochester did not score on four power play opportunities.

Tonight's win, marked the Bulldogs 16th victory on home ice. Hamilton is tied with the Manchester Monarchs for most home wins.

The Hamilton Bulldogs next home action will take place on Saturday, Feburary 7th, as the St. John's Maple Leafs will visit Copps Coliseum. Game time is 3:30 p.m. This will be the Bulldogs last home game for the month of January.
