Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs, in conjunction with Courage for Kids, Pizza Pizza, H.E.C.F.I. and Cable 14, have announced the details of the Courage to be..."ME" event to be held on Thursday, February 22nd.
Students from grades 1-to-4 in the Hamilton and surrounding area are invited to participate in a new, exciting and entertaining educational afternoon program presented by the Hamilton Bulldogs Hockey Club and Courage for Kids. This interactive program will combine the excitement of hockey with important messages about respect, sportsmanship, competition, confidence, teamwork, friendship, leadership and bullying.
Many schools have implemented various initiatives to focus student development in these areas. This program offers an opportunity for on-going reinforcement, while promising to be a fun and engaging event that complies with the Safe Schools Act policies and recommendations. Net proceeds from the event will be directed back to the schools that attend.
This event, valued at $50.00, is being offered for just $12.00 per student and free of charge for teachers and chaperones! Each Student will receive a ticket to the Pizza Pizza Hamilton Bulldogs Skills Competition & Red and White game, attend an animated and interactive Courage to be..."ME" presentation by Courage for Kids, obtain a copy of Have Courage My Love children's book, and be given one voucher for a free ticket to a Bulldogs game.
"The game of hockey provides a unique opportunity to illustrate to children how important it is to believe in yourself and to have courage to face tough challenges," said the author of the children's book Have Courage My Love, Lisa Hewitt-Savelli. "Hockey also demonstrates the value gained when we work together and trust in others to overcome adversity. Similar to the game of hockey, life is full of challenges; it is fast-paced, and sometimes unpredictable. Life is exciting, fun and rewarding, especially when we overcome our fears and conquer our toughest challenges."
Hewitt-Savelli also stated, "Courage to be "ME" will inspire children and highlight that with courage and trust in yourself and in others, anything is possible. Facing adversity and accepting challenges can lead to great opportunity, and help us to make choices that will shape and determine our future for the better."
Lisa Hewitt-Savelli is a family counselor, speaker and author in the areas of peer relationships, confidence, non-violent conflict resolution, bullying behavior, change and transition. Working in the field of violence prevention for over 15 years, Hewitt-Savelli is known for her best-selling children's book Have Courage My Love - a brave encounter with a bully and her work in elementary schools facilitating bullying prevention workshops for students, teachers and parents.
