Aeros Get Shootout Win Vs. Knights, 2-1

The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights lost the first game of a six-game road trip, bowing to the Houston Aeros 2-1 on Tuesday night at the Toyota Center. It was the fourth straight game between the two teams that went to a shootout.

The Aeros struck first on a powerplay late in the first period. Mattias Weinhandl cut through the slot and beat Curtis McElhinney with a low wrist shot for his tenth goal of the season.

After a scoreless second period, the Knights finally tied the game at 8:05 of the third period. Adam Pardy's shot from the left point was knocked down in front, but Warren Peters banged in the rebound for his tenth goal of the season.

The Knights survived overtime when Houston got a powerplay. In the shootout, two of Houston's three shooters scored while Houston's Miroslav Kopriva turned aside all four Knights' shooters to earn the win. It was the first by the Aeros in six games against the Knights this season.

The Knights are now 29-15-3-1. They are winless in two straight.

The Ak-Sar-Ben Knights and the Aeros face off again on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. from the Toyota Center. The Knights will return to the Omaha Civic Auditorium Saturday February 17th for a 2:00 p.m. afternoon matinee versus the Peoria Rivermen.
