Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

LAREDO, TX - Steven Crampton scored with only 34 seconds left to break a 3-3 tie and help the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs to a 4-3 victory over the Laredo Bucks Tuesday night at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The win improved Bossier-Shreveport to 5-1 on the road this year and 8-4-0 overall.

David Rutherford scored two goals in the game as the Mudbugs built a 3-1 lead before Laredo rallied in the third period. Crampton teamed up with Justin Aikins and Brett Smith on the game-winner in the final minute and Brian Foster made 33 saves at the other end as the 'Bugs were outshot 36-25.

Laredo took an early lead in the contest as Darryl Smith set up Jeff Hazelwood's first goal as a Buck at 3:38 to put the home team on top. The Mudbugs answered a few minutes later when David Rutherford sped down the wing into the Laredo zone before ripping a perfectly-placed shot just inside the far post to tie the game at one heading into the second period.

Rutherford tallied again early in the middle frame to put the Mudbugs on top, streaking through center and firing a long wrist shot past Jung's right pad to make it 2-1 'Bugs. Joe Blaznek blasted a long slapshot into the top corner a few minutes later to extend the lead to 3-1 with a powerplay goal. Bossier-Shreveport also killed off three Laredo powerplays in the second period to maintain the two-goal edge after 40 minutes.

Longtime Bucks great Jeff Bes scored just three minutes into the third to cut into the lead and then helped set up Neil Trimm's dazzling goal that tied the game at the 9:21 mark. The game stayed deadlocked until Smith and Crampton went to work in the final minute, battling away in the Laredo zone until Aikins sent a shot on net and Crampton stuffed in the rebound with only 34 ticks left.

Brian Foster earned his fourth win of the year to improve to 4-1-0, while Torrie Jung made 22 stops but suffered his first loss. Bossier-Shreveport converted 1 of 2 powerplay chances and held Laredo scoreless on three opportunities.

The Mudbugs will now return home for a pair of games this weekend at the CenturyTel Center. The 'Bugs host Rio Grande Valley Friday at 7:05 pm for "Scout Night" and then face Laredo again Saturday at 7:05 for "Military Appreciation Night".

Mini-plans and group ticket packages for all home games are available now through the Mudbugs office at 752-BUGS. Individual tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster at 318-741-9700, online at www.ticketmaster.com or at the CenturyTel Center main box office.
