Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
The Mudbugs began one of their longest road trips of the season on Wednesday with their second visit to Indianapolis to meet the Ice. The two teams exchanged first period goals including Jim Sprott's fifth goal of the season with an assist from newcomer David Oliver. After a scoreless second period, the Mudbugs got the game-winning goal from a Chris Brassard wrist shot â his first goal with the team. Dan Wildfong then added insurance at 11:41 of the third with his seventh goal of the year and second point of the night. Goaltender Ken Carroll completed the night with 20 saves to lead the Mudbugs to a 3-1 win over Indianapolis. The win was the Bugs' eighth of the season and snapped the Ice's eleven game home unbeaten streak.
WICHITA GOALTENDER SHINES IN BUGS' 2-1 LOSS â Friday night saw the Mudbugs travel to Wichita to meet the Thunder for the third and final time this season. The story of the game turned out to be Wichita goaltender Patrik Lovisek, who led the Thunder to a 2-1 win with 30 saves. Wichita struck first with a breakaway goal from Jerod Bina, just 5:16 into the game. In the second period, the Thunder increased their lead to 2-0 with a five-on-three power play goal from Jeff Petruic at 7:51. However, the Mudbugs took over the third period and got on the board with a Willie Hubloo wrist shot for his third goal of the year. After several prime scoring chances and lengthy attacks, Wichita held on for the 2-1 victory. Ken Carroll suffered the loss for the Mudbugs, despite making 23 saves.
SHOOTOUT STRUGGLES CONTINUE IN AMARILLO â On Saturday night, the Mudbugs made their first visit to Amarillo since December 14, 2000 to face the team now known as the Gorillas. The Bugs attacked early and often in the first period for a total of 19 shots, but all were stopped by Amarillo goaltender Shawn DeGagne. In the second period, the Mudbugs got two quick goals from Jason Campbell and Dan Wildfong to take a 2-0 lead. However, Ben Maidment tied the game with two third period goals to send the game into overtime. After a scoreless overtime session, which included a Mudbugs penalty kill, Bossier-Shreveport headed to their seventh shootout of the year. With goals from Campbell, Sprott, and Brassard, the Mudbugs sent the shootout into a 10th round with three goals for each team. Brandon Carper then provided the game-winning goal as the tenth shooter for the Gorillas. Jonathan Forest finished with 37 saves in the losing effort as the Mudbugs dropped to 1-6 in shootouts this year.
