Weisgerber, Carroll Given Awards
December 16, 2002 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
San Angelo Saints left winger Trevor Weisgerber and Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs netminder Ken Carroll have been named the recipients of the Central Hockey League's Player and Goaltender of the Week awards for Week 9 of the CHL season. Weisgerber is the first San Angelo player to receive a weekly CHL honor this season, while Carroll joins teammate Dan Wildfong (CHL Player of the Week in Week 4) as Mudbug recipients.
Regina, Saskatchewan native Weisgerber was signed by San Angelo December 10th, and wasted little time in making an immediate impact by scoring twice in a 7-5 loss to Lubbock the same day. He added a goal and an assist in both a 4-3 shootout win over Laredo December 13th and a 7-0 win over Corpus Christi the following night. To finish up his productive week, he scored the game-tying goal with just 42 seconds left to play in an eventual 5-4 shootout loss to Laredo December 15th, earning the Saints a single point. The 6-01, 200 pound left-winger started the season with Oklahoma City, scoring twice and adding a pair of assists in 11 contests.
In Bossier-Shreveport, goaltender Ken Carroll allowed just two goals in a pair of road contests the past week. Carroll, the Western Professional Hockey League's Goaltender and Rookie of the Year in 1999/2000, turned aside 20 of 21 shots in a 3-1 win at Indianapolis December 11th, then stopped 23 of 25 shots two days later in a 2-1 loss at Wichita. For the season, the Oil City, Ontario native currently sits 6th in the CHL with a goals against average at 2.36, and 8th in save percentage at 92.0.
